Biomasstep

Development and transfer of an innovative technology (NIR- Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) for a fast and economic analysis of the native biomass from the cross-border area.

The University of Cordoba (UCO), Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA), the Andalusian Energy Agency and Prodetur, in collaboration with the Spanish Renewable Energy Association (APPA) and four portuguese entities, participate in the European Project Biomasstep, funded by the European Commission as part of the cross-border cooperation programme Interreg Poctep 2014-2020.

Biomasstep has a budget over 600.000 euros and a duration of two and a half years. This EU Project aims to develop and transfer an innovative technology (NIR - Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) to bioenergetic companies, for a fast and economic analysis of the native biomass from the cross-border area.

This project was approved in 2017 and is led by the University of Cordoba.

Biomass Quality Measurement

Through the characterization by native biomass official metodologies, Biomasstep pretends to implement the optimization and development of a quick analytic metodology, clean and innovative, based in the NIR technology, to predict the quality standards of these sub-products.

Additionally, it has the objective of transfering a developed tool to boost the innovative capacity of energy companies, to commercially exploit the research results and to generate added value.

Ultimately, this programme has the objective of creating a cross-border network between research centers, universities, public administrations and enterprises to Foster the use of quality biomass.

CTA activity

CTA coordinates the work package dedicated to the transfer of NIR technology to SMEs. The maximization of the transfer impact will be achieved through the following planned tasks: (i) Detailed analysis of the NIR technology transfer alternatives where aspects of intellectual property, technology valuation, marketing options and potential markets are included ; (ii) Organization of specific training sessions and dissemination days of the project and its results; (iii) Advice on internationalisation opportunities in the biomass sector outside the scope of the project.
