Support for technology-based entrepreneurship
Santa Cruz Ingeniería obtains a DIVA grant of 60.000€ to apply Artificial Intelligence to olive pest management.
The Neolivar software enables a 60% reduction in inputs, a 30% increase in agricultural production and profits and a reduction in chemical environmental pollution, thus contributing to sustainable agriculture and the achievement of Green Deal objectives.
Santa Cruz Ingeniería has developed this precision agriculture tool thanks to funding from the European project DIVA (H2020) and with the advice of CTA.

The Sevillian company Santa Cruz Ingeniería has obtained a grant of 60,000 euros from the European DIVA project to finance the development of a software called Neolivar, which applies artificial intelligence to improve the management of pests and diseases in the olive grove.

CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia) has advised and supported Santa Cruz Ingeniería in obtaining this aid from the European DIVA project, which is an H2020 cascade funding initiative, i.e. a tool being used by the European Union so that SMEs and small companies and entrepreneurs have the possibility of receiving European funding individually, without the need to participate directly in the large direct calls of the European Commission.

“Thanks to CTA, we have obtained financing for a technified, more profitable and environmentally friendly olive grove,” says the CEO of Santa Cruz Ingeniería, who particularly appreciates the support provided by CTA “to initiate the internationalization of our company’s R&D”.

For the development of the project, Santa Cruz Ingeniería has collaborated with the Portuguese olive company Dream Ocassion.

Neolivar, AI to manage olive grove pests

NEOLIVAR software applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manage olive pests and diseases, instructing the technician on how to collect samples according to integrated farming practices, enter them into the software and, finally, make the best decisions. The tool automatically informs and alerts if there is any risk and how to deal with it.

By introducing this software in the olive sector, it is possible to reduce the cost of inputs by up to 60%, increase agricultural production and profits by up to 30%, improve the quality of the final product, reduce chemical environmental pollution, which contributes to sustainable agriculture and to achieving the objectives of the Green Deal.

DIVA, financing for agricultural digitalization

The project led by Santa Cruz Ingeniería is one of the 18 Andalusian initiatives subsidized by the European cascade financing project DIVA. In its three years of existence, DIVA has launched two calls for proposals, to which 396 projects have been submitted, of which 134 have been financed at the international level with 2.7 million euros. Of these, 36 were Spanish.

CTA is one of the 10 partners from 6 European countries that have participated in the European DIVA project, with a total budget of more than 4 million euros for three years, funded by the Horizon 2020 (H2020) program.

With the aim of boosting the digitization of the agri-food, environmental and forestry sectors, the main challenge of the project is to reduce the gap between ICT suppliers and the European agri-food industry. In addition to the calls for grants, DIVA has provided innovation support services, has created a network of experts to support SMEs and has mapped regional grants for technological development in Europe, among other actions.
