12 UPO research groups are selected for a valorization plan focused on improving the transfer of their research results, which includes contacts with innovative companies, events and a digital dissemination plan.

The Pablo de Olavide University (UPO)through its Research Results Transfer Office (OTRI), has launched a plan with the collaboration of Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía (CTA) to improve the transfer of results from its research groups in the areas of Digital Economy (which includes Data ScienceArtificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Smartcities) y Healthy Living (which brings together Food, Health and Active Aging).

This plan is funded by the Department of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities of the Regional Government of Andalusia under the Andalusia ERDF Operational Program 2014-2020, within the Specific Objective 1.2.2. “Knowledge transfer and cooperation between companies and research centers” and from the financial programming of measure A1122062E0 “Technology transfer and cooperation between universities and companies, mainly for the benefit of SMEs”.

Since its creation, the Universidad Pablo de Olavide has maintained a firm commitment to making University-Business cooperation an instrument of progress. Its Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI) was set up in 2000 and since then has played an important role in the university’s transfer mission, providing the necessary support to the activity of its researchers with the aim of translating their research into business or social innovation, as indicated in the annual transfer productivity reports.

Thus, the transfer of results is one of the missions of public universities and consists of ensuring that the advances in knowledge and achievements derived from scientific research reach the market and benefit society as a whole, with collaboration with companies being one of the most effective ways to achieve this.

Development of the valorization and knowledge transfer plan.

Twelve research groups from the UPO in the areas of Digital Economy and Healthy Life have been selected to develop this plan of valorization and knowledge transfer in collaboration with CTA, in order to increase direct collaborations with companies close to their academic and research interests. The valorization plan includes contacts with innovative companies, events and a digital dissemination plan.

The objective is, on the one hand, to help researchers to better understand the scientific-technical needs and the major innovation challenges of the productive sector and, on the other hand, to provide companies with a detailed and updated vision of the capabilities and the most relevant research results of the UPO. In addition, these efforts undertaken by the OTRI of the UPO will be pursued with the greatest possible visibility and impact.

CTA sector experts have already held meetings with the twelve selected groups to learn more about their capabilities, technological offerings and collaborative experience. In addition, CTA has already selected, through a scouting focused on Andalusia, a group of innovative companies in the fields of Digital Economy and Healthy Living, which could be potentially interested in the research results of these groups.

In the first half of 2021, two events will be held at which companies will be able to present their technology needs and challenges to the clusters and, in turn, the clusters will explain their capabilities to address them, thus providing opportunities for collaboration. A plan is also planned to disseminate all actions on social networks to improve the visibility and impact of this effort.
