CTA (Technological Corporation of Andalusia) took part in the 1st BioINSouth Forum, held in Catania, Italy, on June 5–6. This international gathering was driven by the European project BioINSouth and co-funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and the European Union.
The forum aimed to highlight the strategic role of Southern European regions in building a circular, sustainable, and competitive bioeconomy.
The initiative has also been recognized as an official associated event of EU Green Week 2025, which this year focuses on promoting circular solutions to boost the European Union’s competitiveness.

For two days, Catania became a meeting point for representatives from regional governments, innovative companies, research centers, universities, and social stakeholders from across Europe. The forum provided an open space for dialogue to define strategic priorities, share pioneering initiatives, and foster new partnerships that support the green transition in the Mediterranean region.
CTA, as a leading player in regional innovation
Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) played a key role in the forum. As a partner of the BioINSouth project, it took part in several key moments of the program.
María García, Innovation Consultant at CTA and project manager, moderated a roundtable focused on the role of regions in implementing circular bioeconomy strategies in Southern Europe. The session explored approaches and experiences from Andalusia, Campania, Lombardy, Apulia, and Portugal.

Rafael Castillo, also an Innovation Consultant at CTA, took part in the session “Circular Bioeconomy Builds Bridges: The BioINSouth Initiative,” where he presented the regional perspective on how to build bridges for the circular bioeconomy. He shared CTA’s experience in Andalusia and its role as Focus Area Leader for circular bioeconomy within the European Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) working group, highlighting the role of regions as key connectors between policies, stakeholders, and territories.

Outlook and future prospects
The BioINSouth Forum provided a clear overview of the current state and challenges of the circular bioeconomy in Southern Europe, highlighting regional strategies, success stories, and collaboration opportunities. It encouraged the exchange of experiences and network-building among key stakeholders to drive a green transition tailored to the Mediterranean context.
With strong participation and broad institutional support, the forum is establishing itself as a key reference in the field of regional bioeconomy.
As an active participant in the discussions, CTA reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable innovation and its role as a driving force for public-private partnerships in the circular transition.
