The CisWEFE-NEX project advances in the installation of its pilot demonstrator

The European circular economy project CisWEFE-NEX held its third General Assembly on 23 June, this time in an online format, with the aim of reviewing the progress achieved during its first year.

The session began with a welcome speech by BIOAZUL, the coordinating entity of the initiative, followed by an overview of the current status of the project in relation to the objectives set out in the initial work plan.

During the meeting, partners discussed key issues such as the establishment and operation of the External Ethics Committee, as well as the implementation of the communication and dissemination strategy aimed at bringing the project closer to its main stakeholder groups.

One of the central topics of the meeting was the progress on the installation of the pilot demonstrator, which dominated the second part of the agenda. Finally, for technical and legal reasons, it was agreed to relocate its construction to a new site within Portugal’s Algarve region, different from the originally planned location.

An integrated demostrator

CisWEFE-NEX will create a circular solution in water-scarce regions. All subsystems and components of CisWEFE-NEX (agri-photovoltaics, desalination, anaerobic digestion, controlled cavitation, biophenol extraction, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture, and contaminant monitoring) will be integrated into a single system that functions cohesively, ensuring seamless operation.

CTA’s Role

CTA plays a cross-cutting role in the CisWEFE-NEX project, actively contributing to the definition of the demonstrator’s replication strategy during the scale-up phase, as well as to the dissemination and transfer of results from the case studies. Paula Rosa Álvarez, Innovation Consultant, and Julia Vélez, R&D Project Officer, took part in the meeting on behalf of the Foundation.
