Doñana Terra Innova project gathers dozens of innovative ideas for the natural park’s surrounding area in a workshop held in Pilas.

Doñana Terra Innova project, led by CTA and funded by CDTI, has held a workshop in Pilas (Seville), in collaboration with the local City Council and the Association for the Development of the Aljarafe-Doñana Region (ADAD), to gather innovative proposals from entities in the area surrounding the natural park.

In this context, interventions were delivered by José Leocadio Ortega, Mayor of Pilas, and Manuela Cabello, President of ADAD, who highlighted the importance of this type of initiative for boosting the territory and fostering local innovation. Subsequently, Emilio Esteban, Head of the Doñana Technical Office (MITECO), presented the Framework of Actions for sustainable development in Doñana, and Carlos García, Head of the Public Sector at CTA, presented the project and the planned actions to support and mature innovative initiatives.

The meeting was attended by around fifty participants, and 25 bilateral meetings were held with advisors from the Doñana Terra Innova project to support local entities in defining their ideas, maturing them, and accessing funding opportunities.

Doñana Terra Innova project, funded by CDTI and supported by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, aims to promote, during 2026 and 2027, innovative technological projects that contribute to sustainable development across the 14 municipalities in the area surrounding the Doñana Natural Space and Biosphere Reserve.

Doñana Terra Innova seeks to position itself as a key instrument to transform the natural park’s surrounding area into a benchmark for socio-economic development and sustainable innovation, while protecting and leveraging its natural and territorial resources.

The initiative is led by CTA and involves the participation of Asaja-Huelva, the Huelva Employers’ Federation (FOE), the University of Huelva, and the cooperatives Onucoop and Seprocoop.

Key instrument for making Doñana a benchmark in sustainable innovation

Doñana Terra Innova project, funded by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) and supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, will carry out actions to promote sustainable innovation in the municipalities within the area of influence of the Doñana Natural Space, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. This project is part of CDTI’s specific call “Dinamización de Doñana”, within the Industry Line of the Action Framework for Doñana of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

During the two-year implementation period, Doñana Terra Innova will focus on the identification, diagnosis, and definition of innovative initiatives, as well as the design of business plans, entrepreneurial projects, and Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) actions, with special attention to strategic areas for the territory such as water management, sustainable agriculture, and improving conditions in agricultural employment.
