AGERAR PLUS, a European project with CTA among its partners, wins Best Paper Award at ECRES 2026
  • CTA leads the communication activities for AGERAR PLUS, a European project that aims to develop innovative solutions to facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, prosumers and energy communities into smart grids.

Imperial College London (UK) hosted the 14th European Conference on Renewable Energy Systems (ECRES 2026) from 7 to 9 July. The AGERAR PLUS project was represented at the event through three scientific papers presented by researchers Rosa María Rengel and Diego Tejada from the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA).

AGERAR PLUS, which held its final event on 1 July, played a prominent role at the conference by showcasing two research studies focused on the virtual interconnection of prosumers through remote laboratories and on the development of advanced techniques for fault detection in real microgrids. The project also highlighted progress in smart energy storage management, the virtual interconnection of laboratories, and the early detection of faults in microgrids.

One of the papers showcased within the project, entitled “Experimental Validation of a Distributed Multi-Agent Architecture for Optimal Energy Storage Management in Renewable Energy Prosumers”, developed jointly by the Galician Institute of Technology (ITG), the University of the Algarve and the University of Seville, received the ECRES Best Paper Award 2026 in recognition of its scientific quality, originality and contribution to the field of renewable energy systems.

This recognition reinforces the international impact of AGERAR PLUS’s results and highlights the collaboration among its partners in advancing more flexible, efficient and resilient distributed energy systems.

CTA’s Role

Within the AGERAR PLUS project, CTA has led the Visibility, Transparency and Communication activities. To this end, CTA developed a communication strategy aimed at maximising the dissemination of the project’s activities, knowledge and results among all quadruple-helix stakeholders involved in the renewable energy sector. Its objective has been to promote energy efficiency by strengthening the role of small and medium-sized prosumers and energy communities across the POCTEP area.
