  • The president of CTA, Beltrán Pérez, defends the importance of innovation to achieve a more competitive and sustainable agri-food sector and increase its margins.

The president of CTA, Beltrán Pérez, participated today in a forum organized by the newspaper VozPópuli on “Tourism and Agribusiness: Promoting the strategic sectors of Andalusia”, where he defended the importance of innovation to achieve a more competitive and sustainable and increase their margins.

Specifically, Pérez has participated in a round table on digitalization, innovation, internationalization and sustainability of the Andalusian agri-food sector, together with the president of Landaluz, Álvaro Guillén; the general director of Asaja, Félix García de Leyaristi; the vice president of Asociafruit, José Rodríguez; and the manager of the Seville Rice Growers Association, Eduardo Vera. Furthermore, the round table was preceded by an intervention by the Secretary General of Agriculture, Consolación Vera.

Pérez pointed out that the Andalusian agri-food sector has made a significant effort to accelerate its innovation in recent years. “We have innovative farmers, cooperatives and companies, aware of the need to maintain a stable R&D&I strategy to remain competitive and increase their margins,” he noted and added that, “however, there are still many technological challenges for the sector and we must continue to increase the effort and extend it to more farms and companies.

Furthermore, CTA is a reference partner in international innovation projects funded by the European Union and more than 22 of the projects we are part of are related to the agri-food sector: Biobec, Robin, Biotransform, Track, Gen4olive, Connecteo, Urbiofuture , Diva, Superbio, MPowerBIO, Agrobridges, Zerow, Biomasstep, Bioswitch, Excornseed or Bio4Africa are some examples.

Likewise, we are members of Andalucía Agrotech, the first Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) that has achieved European recognition and which aims to respond to the needs of the Andalusian agri-food sector.
