The European project GEN4OLIVE, an initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and led by the University of Cordoba, has recently held its sixth consortium meeting in Chania (Crete). CTA, as one of the 16 members of this project, has attended the meeting to share its milestones and objectives until the end of the initiative, which will take place in 2024. Specifically, CTA is leading the GEN4OLIVE work package on calls for funding to SMEs for the development of olive genetic improvement plans.

The technical manager of the agri-food sector of CTA, Nathalie Chavrier, and the innovation consultant, Macarena Ureña, have focused part of their intervention in Crete on the results of the second call for funding for SMEs, closed last January. On this occasion, 10,000 euros will be awarded to each of the 17 individual proposals approved.

The sixth GEN4OLIVE consortium meeting was organised by the Hellenic Agricultural Organization ELGO-DIMITRA. In addition to updating information on the project status, the attendees were able to visit the ELGO DIMITRA Germplasm Bank, the Terra Creta olive mill and the LIFE Olivares Vivos+ olive groves, in order to network with this European project.
